Die Plugable UD-CAM USB-C Mini-Dockingstation bietet einen zusätzlichen HDMI-Displayausgang (über den Alternate Mode, intern auf HDMI konvertiert für maximale Kompatibilität), bis zu 85 Watt Power Delivery (PD) zum Laden Ihres Host-Computers über USB-C (der Host-Computer muss PD über USB-C unterstützen), Gigabit-Ethernet, Audio und erweiterte USB-Gerätekonnektivität. Alles über ein einziges USB-C-Kabel.

Die UD-CAM Dockingstation nutzt die neue USB-C-Funktionalität zur nativen Videoausgabe über kompatible USB-C-Anschlüsse. Der USB-C-Alternate-Mode bietet eine direkte Verbindung zum Grafikprozessor Ihres Systems, sodass Ihr angeschlossener Monitor wie ein nativ angeschlossenes Display funktioniert. Das Alternate-Mode-Signal wird in HDMI 1.4 konvertiert, um gängige HDMI-Monitore zu unterstützen.

Kompatible Systeme
Plug-and-Play-Installation auf praktisch jedem Windows-, Mac- oder Linux-Rechner, der die Videoausgabefunktion „Alternate Mode“ (Alt Mode) unterstützt. Aktuelle Beispiele sind das 12" Retina MacBook mit USB-C / MacBook Pro (Ende 2016 / 2017), Lenovo Yoga 720 13", Surface Book 2, Dell XPS 13" (9350/9360) und Pixelbook. Das Dell XPS 15" (9550/9560) funktioniert zwar, zeigt aber beim Booten eine Warnung an, wenn kein 130-W-Ladegerät erkannt wird.

Stromversorgung und Aufladen
Das Netzteil der UD-CAM kann Hosts über den USB-Power-Delivery-Standard mit bis zu 85 Watt Leistung laden. Wie bereits erwähnt, können einige Geräte, die die Videoausgabe über USB-C unterstützen, nicht über USB-C geladen werden. Für diese Systeme wird das Ladegerät Ihres Systemherstellers benötigt.
